Dog Joint Problems
When your dog begins to favor one of his joints by holding it in the air or by trying to keep his weight off it, he could be suffering from an infectious disorder, arthritis or even rheumatism.
Dog joint problems are all caused by an inflammation whether caused by a sprain or by an arthritic rheumatism that could signal an inflammation in your dog's blood system.
Whatever the source or the cause of your dog's pain, he will tell you by favoring that joint and by being very sensitive to anyone touching his diseased joint. Your dog might even protect his injured joint from additional pain by whatever means he has at his disposal. For that reason, your dog should be seen by a veterinarian who can assess the inflammation or sprain or blood disorder and prescribe the proper treatment.
Dog joint problems should never be overlooked since your dog's temper can be adversely affected by his pain.
Just as we become frustrated and temperamental when we are in pain so does your dog. His inflamed joint can be due to some simple mistake in his care like feeding your dog a diet that will lead to the incidence of arthritis or rheumatism. Your dog may not be sleeping in dry quarters and may have been exposed to the cold by sleeping near a drafty corner.
Just as people get sick from improper housing and food so do dogs. However, if your dog is developing these symptoms and none of the causes have been mentioned, then he may be one of those breeds that is more susceptible to those disorders and you are dealing with his genetics. If that is the case, you can combat poor genes by physical as well as medical measures.
Dog joint pain that has developed from inherited predisposition in the breed of the dog can be handled by properly exercising your dog, restricting his diet and taking him to the veterinarian for joint inflammation relief medication. Your dog will also benefit from your controlling his weight by limiting his snacks and his food consumption.
There is nothing sadder than watching a dog being fed to death by owners who think that they are doting on their pet. Giving in to a breeds insatiable appetite is not being paternal or loving. If your pet was injured, a veterinarian and a restricted environment would be your first choice as conscientious owners. A breed that is breaking down internally from some genetic cause or from some psychological cause is also injured.
To continue with your dog's normal diet and lifestyle in the face of dog joint problems is to show a total lack of caring for your dog. Nutritional supplements, lots of fresh water, adequate exercise, restricted diet and a visit to your veterinarian will make your dog feel better and maybe prolong his life span as well. Dog's might be a man's best friend, but dogs are not really constitutionally like people.
Consider your dog's age and multiply it by 7. That is your dog's true age in human terms. Just as your dog's life cycle is different from yours, so is his biological system different from yours. Your dog can lead a healthier and happier life if he is treated to a diet and exercise program developed just for dogs with joint problems.
